At first glance, it looks like a small stone, but if you pull the halves of this stone apart, you will find that it reveals a perfectly formed trilobite "fossil". Every leg joint and compound eye facet is perfectly rendered on this delightfully clever keyring!
Trilobites are extinct arthropods that flourished in the waters of the Cambrian and lower Paleozoic eras until they gradually declined to extinction in the Permian period. Because of their abundance and diversity in the ancient seas, and their hard and easily preserved exoskeletons, trilobites are well represented in the fossil record, and are extremely popular with fossil hunters.
